Would you sing your dog to sleep? Bake your cat a birthday cake? Maybe throw a full-on pet-friendly date night complete with music and mood lighting? Turns out, if you’re living in the UK… you just might.
To celebrate National Pet Month, UK Pet Food have revealed the wonderfully wild and loveable lengths we’ll go to in order to treat our pets like one of the family, but with an important reminder to channel this love wisely when it comes to nutrition.
According to UK Pet Food’s latest survey:
· 60% of us cuddle up with our pets on the sofa
· 52% indulge them with treats
· 51% kiss them
· 35% give them massages
· 31% listen to music with them
· 25% sit down and eat with our animal companion
· 25% bake them birthday cakes
· 24% take them to cafes
· 19% read them bedtime stories
· 17% organise ‘date nights’
· 17% sing them to sleep
So, Who’s Showing Their Pet The Most Love?
It’s not just children wanting to read one more chapter to the family dog. Latest research shows men are more likely to have date nights with their pet, read them stories and sing them lullabies.
Households with children are more likely to make pet-friendly birthday cakes, sit down and eat together with their animal companions.
However, while cherishing our pets is something to be proud of, part of being a responsible pet owner is to make sure we are providing them with a healthy, balanced diet.
Love Them Madly, Feed Them Wisely
So, that’s why UK Pet Food is reminding us not to let our love lead us astray when it comes to nutrition.
Their Love Them Madly, Feed Them Wisely campaign is all about helping us make smart, balanced choices at mealtimes for our pets because that’s a big part of showing love too.
Nicole Paley, Deputy Chief Executive at UK Pet Food, explains: “As this survey shows, in the UK we adore our pets and naturally want to give them the very best.
“With so many options to choose from, navigating the pet food shelves can feel overwhelming at times for pet owners.
“UK Pet Food was established over 50 years ago as an independent body representing the whole pet food industry and offers pet owners impartial advice and information. So, whether your pet eats a traditional kibble, a raw diet or opts for fresh food, you can be sure to find the advice and reassurance you need on our website and can always reach out to us for additional help and support.”
Campaign ambassador and celebrity vet, Cat Henstridge adds:
“There’s no doubt we love our pets unconditionally. And with so much variety out there, we don’t need to compromise in other areas of life to ensure they’re well-nourished.”
